Introduction
Here at e-lab, students can perform real experiments through the Internet.
The physical set-up for the experiments are hosted at Instituto Superior Técnico. The experiment is controlled by the admin, which is the first user in list of current users. There is another mode that allows the teacher to do the experiment and give all the students data and pictures simultaneously, despite physical distance.
The data and video feed from each experiment are captured by sensors, which are connected (directlly or otherwise) to a central computer and then broadcasted through the internet.
Each control room, specific to each experiment, has it's own page, where the user can find a protocol, suggestions for variations to the experience, as well as explanations and reviews of the data. Each control room also has a chat where everyone can share and comment information about the experiences and the data analysis (results).
Control room, experimental apparatus, protocol and experimental setup are key concepts in e-lab:
- Control Room: virtual environment to control real laboratory.
- Experimental apparatus: equipment that allows performing certain exeriences.
- Experimental setup: experimental apparatus configuration according to the protocol to execute.
- Protocol: following execution of the experience with their selection and configuration of the experimental setup.
The users of the website e-escola can send suggestions or reports of their own experiences to this email.
